It is definitely winter here now... all of yesterday we received about 2-3 inches of ice pellets, freezing rain and sleet, and after that, an additional 7-8" of snow. Here are just some pictures from around the yard:
There was about 2-3 inches of sleet/heavy slush on our driveway, covered by about 6" of snow. Lots of fun to shovel! So much fun, in fact, that we left half of the driveway with the slush on it. HA! Yesterday we found that my car (the red one!) handles very well in the snow, so we will probably take it anywhere we need to go today. Luckily we both did not have to go to work. We both left work around 2:15pm yesterday to try to beat the bad weather. The roads are very bad, as we don't have nearly enough equipment to handle this type of weather down here.

If you can see, the sleet and freezing rain left some ice in some interesting places!

The freezing rain covered tree limbs with about 1/4" or more of ice. It's beautiful, but it is causing more and more people to be without power. Tree limbs are snapping, even trees falling down, power lines snapping. As of about 7:30am this morning, there were over 450,000 people in the metro area without power. We do have power though... fortunately.
Today we're just hanging out at home. Our neighbor Burt went to work around 5am this morning, and he was out shoveling his driveway. Noah kidded with him about not going to work, and he mentioned he did, but they didn't have power and the roads were so bad that he just came back home. Unfortunately, his wife had to work, and was afraid to drive in the 6-8" of snow and ice still on the roads, so he was nice enough to drive her.
My boss, Jennifer, and her husband lost power around 1am, and are starting to get cold. We offered to take them in for a while, but the roads are a mess, so I doubt we have any company today. Everyone is staying in to avoid all the accidents out there.
Our Christmas party for work is cancelled (American Family). We are postponing it until January because of the holidays and busy schedules. Good-bye, juicy filet mignon, apple sage stuffed chicken breast, garlic mashed potatoes, and new york cheesecake with raspberries!!! Yuummmm!!!
Oh... and here is a picture (finally) of my new car! It's very dirty, but at least I have a picture, right? haha! Yesterday on my way home from work, the freezing rain was so heavy, my windshield wipers were frozen solid and were hardly doing anything. I had to put them on high sometimes, and put the defrost on high heat to keep the windshield from freezing up so I couldn't see. It was insane. I got home and realized that my whole car was covered in about 1/2" of solid ice. Most of it is gone now, but you can still see some on the top.
Noah's test for his first Masters class is on the 6th, so wish him luck! He is hoping to do well on this test! :)
Other than being "snowed in" and "iced in", things are pretty quiet.
See you at Christmastime!
Love,
Krista & Noah
